32 Contact Hours

Course Description

Newly updated, this dynamic training program by Miraflor & Associates was created to provide an in-depth learning experience in utilization review, case management, and discharge planning processes. The program will enhance the newcomer’s ability to enter the field of managed care with a strong foundation. The course provides two days of classroom study of the concepts of utilization review, case management, and discharge planning, and an experienced-based understanding during two days of on-site practicum. Miraflor & Associates is pleased to be on the cutting edge of managed care training with this innovative program.

Four key topics will be covered:

  • Managed care concepts
  • Utilization review process
  • Case Management process
  • Discharge planning concepts

Our unique program includes:

  • Two classroom days of lecture, group discussion and exercises.
  • Two onsite practicum days at a local host hospital.
  • The opportunity to practice skills and apply new knowledge immediately.

Course Objectives

The objectives of this practical training program:

  • Discuss managed care and insurance concepts.
  • Describe the utilization review process.
  • Explain and apply utilization criteria, using standard utilization review documentation.
  • Describe the case management process.
  • Explain discharge planning concepts, including screening, criteria, and process.
  • Perform a discharge planning assessment.

Students who are successful in this program will have a strong fundamental knowledge of certain managed care processes and will have acquired many valuable hands-on skills. This experience should improve employment potential in a marketplace that requires experience to get started. Clinical experience is an important component in the equation.
